A few teaser photos

We have been busy touring around Turkey for the past several days - it is amazing! Here are just a few previews of what we will be writing about soon.

This is the library at Ephesus, an ancient Roman town on the coast of Turkey near Kusadasi.

Castle on the hill near Kusadasi (Ephesus).

Travertines in Pamukkale.

The sacred bath, notice the ancient Roman columns in the water.

Our hotel in Goreme. We stayed in a cave room.

Just a goat in a window, you know?

Fairy chimneys.

John gettin' all zen-like.

We ate dinner Saturday night on a terrace underneath a fairy chimney.

Where are we?

A quick update before we get on another bus:

Earlier today we left Kusadasi, Turkey on a bus to Denizli. It was the BEST bus trip I have ever been on - they even serve snacks and coffee/tea. We got to Denizli and promptly got on a mini-bus for Pamukkale. We then visited the travertines (definitely will be an entire separate post). We will get a bus back to Denizli at about 7PM and then board a bus for Goreme. We will spend the night on the bus and arrive VERY early in the region of Cappadocia. We will be spending a few days there, then go to Istanbul.

We have a flight back to the U.S. on June 13/14 from Istanbul to London to Dallas to Killeen. More details later on why we are headed back, but it boils down to being a bit homesick after constant travel for 6 months!

Baaaaa

We are now on Naxos. I didn't care for Mykanos at all, it was set up for tourists, that's about it. Our hotel in Naxos is behind a field of sheep, close to the Fiat dealership. I like this place, it mixes traditional with modern, residents with tourists, city with country, beach with bars. :)

Speaking of bars, on Mykanos we took the bus out to Paradise Beach. It consisted of a strip of 4-5 bars on the beach, each one vying for the attention of the few people out there (it's still early in the season). We sat in a booth between the surf and a bar. On the bar side were about 25 people, 7 girls in bikinis dancing on a "stage" and all the guys watching and occasionally joining in. It was like wanna be MTV. On the other side we saw a guy come out of the surf naked and casually pick up his towel to dry off. He didn't even look cold. Strange experience.
